Shut up and Drive
10 September, 2011

John Gray set a Brighton Speed Trial record of racing a quarter of a mile in 8.09 seconds in 1993. Today, Sam from Bolton reached speeds of 60mph in less than 3 seconds. Ok, so it’s not quite the Brighton Speed Trials taking place on Madeira Drive today, but riding Brighton Pier’s “Super Booster” is the closest Sam and I have ever come to John Gray’s Speed Trial record; and we achieved that by being dropped over the sea!

As part of my job, I then felt it was necessary to test drive the UK’s first “Fast & Furious Super Bikes” game and “Typhoon” in The Palace of Fun Arcade. Both are different- The “Fast and Furious” game allows you to beat your racing friends whilst “Typhoon” let’s you sit back and literally be blown away in a 4D gaming experience- Both are fun.

As I left the arcade Brighton Pier’s radio station djs played “Shut up and Drive” and “Disco Inferno”- I clearly wasn’t the only one getting caught up in the Speed Trials.

Tonight we have a private Birthday Party on the pier (visit our Private Functions & Corporate Hire website page for more info on hiring the pier) and tomorrow I’ll be taking plenty of pictures of the mods and rockers on Brighton Pier as Ace Cafe host a reunion nearby.

As always, you can tag yourself in photos on our Facebook page or send in your own photos to me at neilblackmore@brightonpier.co.uk and you’ll be able to see yourself on Brighton Pier’s website.

I’m off to meet Sam now in Victoria’s Bar for the Bolton vs. Man Utd game that kicks off at 17:15.
